DIY French Memory Board

The fun thing about having random stuff lying around the house is there’s always something that new that you can do with it. I made this French memory board from mostly old materials.

A used silkscreen frame with the screen torn off
An illustration board
An old cork board (Optional. You can just stick with illustration board.)

Other materials needed:

  • Fabric
  • Fabric scissors / shears
  • Glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  • Staple gun
  • Staple wires
  • Buttons (optional)

Step 1: Cut the cork and illustration boards based on the frame’s outer height and width.

Step 2: Glue the cork board to the illustration board then to the frame.

Step 3: Cut fabric enough to wrap the frame.

Step 4: Wrap frame with the fabric. Secure it by using the staple gun.

Step 5: Layout how you want your ribbons to look like.

You can opt to make holes into the board and cork then sew the ribbons through them to secure the ribbons even more.

Step 6: Temporarily secure ribbons with a pin before gluing or stapling them in place.

Be careful!

Step 7 (Optional): You may choose to adorn your memory board with buttons, beads, etc.

Step 8 (Optional): You may choose to cover the back side to hide frayed fabric ends and excess ribbons.

DONE! Now you can use your French memory board to store reminders, calling cards, grocery lists, etc.
